Intriguing time of day
When you arrive at late afternoon on a Friday, it is usually an uplifting experience. The combination of the work week (for most) winding down, the anticipation of either social activity or mellow time at home and spending more time with loved ones will always be a traditional tonic for anything that has gone awry recently. But this Friday afternoon in particular has some extra zest. It is actually above 40 degrees and is a blissfully sunny with lucid, blue skies. And the extra kick to this day is that it is the last weekday of February, which rates as the least popular month for many people.
Even though I am not yet working full-time, I still experience the rising euphoria that Fridays brings. For tonight’s family activity, Amanda, Samantha and I will be heading to the wonderful Missouri Art Museum to see some brilliant live bluegrass featuring the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Rolling Stone Magazine described the Carolina Chocolate Drops’ style as “dirt-floor-dance electricity”. The band focuses on honoring the “long lineage of Black String Bands. The tradition traces its roots to musicians from Africa who came to the Americas in the holds of slave ships,” according to their site. Should be a lot of fun! I also am always excited when the Cleveland Cavaliers play, so you can bet I will have both of my DVRs cranking to grab all of those NBA games I will want to watch later.
I hope to have some great things to write about Mizzou basketball this weekend, but we’ll see what goes down in Manhattan, Kansas.
