My new and improved web home

25 February 2010 No Comment

As I begin to shift gears and dive into my search for new job opportunities, it is an ideal time to freshen up my site. So I have changed my web content management system from Joomla! to WordPress. Always known for its terrific blogging capabilities, I have been impressed with WordPress’ emerging CMS abilities and vast options for cool site themes. My goal is scaled-back simplicity, so I plan to start with this clean template and go from there.

Learning to be a dad is pretty awesome

My previous full-time position was with Emmis Communications in St. Louis. Emmis operates four area radio stations (KHITS 96, KSHE 95, 105.7 The Point and 97.1 FM Talk) and I helped manage web content in my role as Digital Brand Manager. You can check out my resume for more (see above), but I will say it was a very enjoyable work environment. When lay offs struck our company, I had an 8-month-old baby at home. My wife, Amanda, and I decided that I could use this as an opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad. This is a topic that I plan to write about professionally in great detail, but, in short, it has been an amazingly positive journey. It also may be one of those once-in-a-lifetime chances, so there are zero regrets.

But I am now seeking work, so that will be my primary topic in the near future. My experiences range from covering professional sports to small-college athletics, from managing a classic rock station’s very active web site to freelance writing and editing. Most of my current projects involve writing on the NBA and also parenting. That is quite a combination!
